Firefox vs IE

I just found this comparison between Internet Explorer and Firefox. Instead of the usual technical yawn inducing pages of text, this is a lighter side to the browser war!

OpenVPN

I've been looking at OpenVPN recently with a view to giving it a try. I've used FreeSWAN previously, and it's a nightmare to configure and setup, requiring patches applied to the code, kernel rebuilds and so on; and you get even more "issues" when you need to use NAT Traversal. A quick look on the OpenVPN site linked to this article at Fedora News, which in my case is fairly relevant as I tend towards the Redhat distributions. It all certainly looks interesting as a good and free alternative to IPSec based VPNs.

Moving on

This week, I have mostly been getting a new job. Yay! More money, working with me best friend and more variety in what I'll be doing. I have 1 month left at my current workplace (although I'm trying to make it less if possible). All good fun!

Sometimes

Sometimes, PHP is really nice. It's easy to use - sometimes. The times that it isn't, is like hitting your head on a brick wall. Now that the DNS functionality has been fixed for PHP in windows (hurrah! at last!) all I need to be able to do is to somehow be able to specify timeouts for the appropriate DNS functions. Which as far as I can tell, can't be done. I guess it probably serves me right for trying to write a server application.

Stormy weather

It seems that our main client at work is starting to become less satisfied by the level of support that they have been receiving recently, as our whole department had a talking to - "I'm not coming down on you guysm, but..." was the way it was presented. Hopefully things will improve, either at work at the moment or by moving to a new job, of which I'm waiting to hear back about!

Back to work (again!)

Well, it was quite nice not to be AT work, even though being on call meant there was still work to be done. t does at least mean I should get a nice fat juicy wage this month and also in february.

On an entirely different note, while watching the local news doing a review of some of the stories from 2004, they showed a veteran paying his respects to a fallen comrade. While this in itself is perfectly fine, I find his choice of words - "sleep well" - rather disturbing. It just made me think that if he really was sleeping, when he wakes up he's going to be very, very annoyed. Ah well!
