Machines (Back to Humans)

The title pretty much says it all about how I feel going back to work tomorrow. I've had an enjoyable time off, got a few things sorted out, yesterday I even got to see "The Incredibles" at the cinema in Swindon with some friends - well worth seeing - and afterwards having a meal at Frankie and Bennies just next door. Oh well, back to work tomorrow but at least it'll soon be Christmas and then I'll have a whole load more holiday!

Time

This week, I am not at work; I'm taking a theoretical holiday - if by which merely not going to work can be classed as a holiday! At least I've already done something useful - I've been into the bank and got some details updated and now I have some insurance stuff which apparently I should have already had but didn't. I like local banks; I've used online services previously for financial services, but it's very nice to be able to go and discuss things with someone rather than with a non-entity over the phone.

On another "Time" related note, I'm wondering if my youngest brother has the P.U.L.S.E. album (by Pink Floyd). Now that I've remembered, I htink I'll call Dad and ask him...

Long term file storage... in /tmp

Developers at work should take note: Files intended for long term storage should NOT be kept in /var/tmp - setting up software correctly in the first place would be a much better idea. Eejits.

Brass monkeys

It seems to be getting colder and colder. Having watched that disaster flick where the northern hemisphere freezes over (I only watched it this afternoon, but I can't remember the name of it) it feels like it's starting to happen for real. Although I guess I think along the same things every year. Also, while it's cold enough to freeze the proverbial nuts, it doesn't snow anywhere near as much as it did in the winters of my childhood. I long for the day when I can stay at home and watch telly and be able to phone in to work to say "I'm snowed in".

Oncall and stuff

While nic has been ill, I switched from 2nd line oncall to 1st line. This means that I have ended up receiving a 100% increase in oncall incidents for this week, and while not normally a problem, last night was a bit of a nightmare. In otherwords, I'm sure I got some sleep, but in which minutes of which hours, I'm still nto entirely sure.

Get well soon nic!!!!
